When Emily
was
ten, she went to live on a
cattle station
because her mother
was
working
there.
The nearest
town, Alice Spring
was
very far away (about 650 km).
While on the
cattle station, Emily
didn’t go
to a traditional school.
She
took
her lessons by radio.

When Mrs Clayton
got
her job in the Australian Outback, Emily
didn’t live
with her father. So she
went
to the cattle station too.
She
didn’t have
any discipline problems at the school of the Air. She enjoyed[d]
having her lessons by radio. She
met
some problems :
She
used[d]
to
send her written work to her teachers but she often waited[id]
a long time before getting her work back because the postman
didn't come
every week.
Then, she received[d]
a computer and
sent
her work by electronic mail. Things
were
easier. But not for long.
She
was
too old to stay at the school of the air so she
left
and
went
to boarding school.
She
was
miserable there. She
didn't enjoy
her life there.
She is happier now that she's back home :
She can watch TV.
She doesn't have to
share her bedroom with anyone.
